Free Kindle Book and Spring Reading Recommendations

If you’ve been thinking about reading my novel series, The Isaiah Cadre Series, now is a great time to jump in.  The first book, Beauty for Ashes, is being offered by Amazon on Kindle for FREE Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4 & 5, 2017.  This is a good way to check out a series and see if you like it.

“How do you maintain your faith in times of trouble or trauma? What if the trauma had long-lasting effects, perhaps for the rest of your life? Would you still feel that God’s got your back? Would you have the courage to live out your convictions? Kelly, a junior at Westmont College in 1981, suffers a traumatic experience which changes her life. Can she rebuild with the help of her family, friends, and college community? How will the trauma affect her faith? What joys can be uncovered in the healing process? And will she ever be able to love again? This story of romance, heartbreak, joy, and faith will inspire you … and summon you to a confidence that works itself out in reality. There is a free Bible study/journal/discussion guide available upon request (info included in the book).”

There are two more books in the series:  A Word Behind You, and Springs of Deliverance (which is about to be released).  I’ve begun work on book #4, Unfamiliar Roads.

Here’s what one reviewer, Tillie, said about Beauty for Ashes:  “Wow! What an excellent writer! I did not want to put this book down! This is an incredible book that takes you on a journey with so many twists and turns- it leaves you in suspense. Beautifully written romantic yet an intense story that fits readers most ages (be sure to read before passing this on to a teen). You will enjoy this.. I also felt this was a great learning book with lots of guidance throughout the story.Extremely well thought out real life situations even though this is fiction. I also purchased the Study Guide to use to read along with the chapters which really has you thinking, pondering and reflecting. It really touched my heart. A must read book! I can’t wait to start the next book in this Isaiah Cadre Series. I will be gifting these books to young women and of all ages on up and everyone in the series to come!”

While we’re talking about books, I noticed today that one of my very favorite books of all time is being offered on Kindle for $1.99 today.  I’m not sure how long this special will last.  I first read this book in 1980, and have read it many times since.  It’s had a huge influence on me and I often recommend it to coaching clients and friends.  My first copy of the book has so many notes in it that there are pages you can no longer read!  Celebration of Discipline is a very practical book about Christian spiritual disciplines, with step-by-step instructions, but it’s not at all legalistic.  The disciplines covered are:

  • Christian Meditation (as in the Bible)
  • Prayer
  • Fasting
  • Study
  • Simplicity
  • Solitude
  • Submission
  • Service
  • Confession
  • Worship
  • Guidance
  • Celebration

This book has become a classic and should be part of every Christian’s library.  (Note that if you order Celebration of Discipline, using the picture/link, I will get a small fee from Amazon, but hey … every penny helps keep old people — Bill and me — off the street.  Rest assured that I only recommend books I truly value.)

I mentioned earlier that my third novel is about to be released.  You can pre-order a signed copy now (probably just for another week) at a special low price.  I also have the set of three paperbacks on sale.  Check out my store at for this and other sets.

Springs of Deliverance explores the spiritual struggles of a couple men:  One dealing with schizophrenia and the other in a battle to protect his wounded girlfriend while obeying God’s call to forgiveness.  It continues the saga of six friends from Westmont College, as they mature spiritually and come into their own as adults.  I hope to release the fourth book, Unfamiliar Roads, in the summer.

Speaking of summer, what are your favorite books?  I’d like to compile a summer reading list with fiction, nonfiction, light reading, and heavy works, which I’ll share with all of you.  Send me your list and, if you have time, tell me what’s great about them.  Please let me know if it’s okay to say that you recommended it.  I’d love to hear from you!

Have a lovely week!
